This plugin displays images in a carousel. It was inspired by Carousel Gallery by Joen.

Installation

1. Unpack the plugin, put it in your “plugins” folder (`/wp-content/plugins/`).
2. Activate the plugin from the Plugins section.

F.A.Q.

How do I change the layout?
Most of the design, you have to do using CSS. Fortunately there are lots of classes to hook into.

How do I change the image and thumbnail sizes?
Carousel Gallery uses the WordPress Media settings for this (Settings -> Media).

adobe cs3 suite licensing issue

For the second time, Adobe cs3 has stopped working with the message “Licensing for this product has stopped working”. I have tried to follow all the recomendations on the Adobe website but to no avail. The last time this happened, I had to clean the registry and re-install the program. I guess I will probably have to do this again. I am beginning to re-think my reliance on Adobe products.

More trouble with Table Layouts

I recently took on a very small project to do some modifications to a website. As this website was several years old, it used a table layout. The changes needed to be made on several pages and consisted of removing old information that was replaced with a new link. So, on every page I had to make sure to remove the correct code and no extra tables that would have messed up the layout. This process took me about 2 hours but would have been about 30 minutes on a CSS based site.

As part of the team working on a relaunch of OnPoint Urgent Care on a WordPress platform, my role was to design the theme. My role consisted of creating a lot of CSS as well as implementing the jQuery used in the drop down menus and slide show.

jQuery Datepicker

I am currently developing a new WordPress theme and decided to use jQuery’s datepicker. I struggled at first to get the calendar looking the way I want but eventually got it working. Of course, there are several pre-defined themes that can be used with the date picker but I preferred a custom look and feel to match the website I am developing.

Improving PHP skills

While my skills in php/mySql are sufficient enough to create #WordPress themes and modify plugins, I know they could use some refinement. Having received a month free trial at Lynda.com. I have been following along with the course ”
PHP with MySQL Beyond the Basics” and have learned new tips and tricks – especially object-oriented approaches. The only downside to the training is that you do not get course files unless you are a premium subscriber at a cost of $375.00 per year! While I fully understand the concept of paying for both content and training, it would be very nice to be able to get the course files as a monthly subscriber. Couldn’t Lynda.com just charge a bit more per month? This seems very reasonable to me since I really would not need a full-year subscription.

Typekit

Trying out some fun fonts for headers on my website. I am using Typekit which is very easy to use – just go through the setup and select some fonts! I’ve just signed up for the free fonts so I don’t know what is available with a paid subscription but it is interesting trying it out. I have selected Inconsolata for my first try at this.
